Frequently asked questions

Slippery Rock, PA | Trauma Therapist

What types of therapy do you offer?

At Painted Willow Healing, I specialize in trauma-informed therapy, including EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing), art therapy and somatic work, for residents of Slippery Rock and throughout Pennsylvania. I also help clients facing anxiety, PTSD, postpartum challenges, and burnout.

Do you take insurance?

Yes! I do. I am paneled with several insurances; Highmark/BCBS, UPMC, Aetna, UHC, Optum and Cigna. I also accept self-pay. Self-pay rates are $175. I can provide superbills for out-of-network reimbursement. Sliding scale is an option but openings are minimal.

What age do you work with?

I work with 17+ and up. Although I have a history of working with kids as young as 4, I am now only working with young adults and adults. In this season of my life, I want to work with individuals and not the family unit.

Do I have to be good at art to participate in Art Therapy?

No! In reality, you are already good at art. Art therapy is about the process, the language art provides us, and the opportunity to express ourselves. Art is in the eye of the beholder. Whatever you create is good enough because it’s yours and your language. We use it to help us when words are not enough.

What is EMDR therapy and how does it work?

EMDR is an evidence-based therapy that supports the brain’s natural healing process. Through bilateral stimulation (like eye movements or tapping), it helps reprocess distressing memories so they lose emotional intensity. It’s especially effective for trauma, PTSD, and anxiety—and I offer it both in-person in my Grove City office and virtually across PA.

I am a bit afraid of EMDR, will it cause me harm?

EMDR isn’t meant to be harmful though it CAN bring up painful memories and thoughts. I work very specifically in helping you prepare for those moments so if and when they happen, you have the tools and resources to work through it.

Who benefits most from EMDR at Painted Willow Healing?

EMDR is suitable for anyone healing from past trauma—including complex PTSD, childbirth or postpartum trauma, grief, and performance anxiety. It’s ideal for people ready to move forward without re-telling painful stories in detail.

How many sessions will it take to see results?

EMDR varies by person, but many clients report noticeable relief in 4–8 sessions. The full experience may take longer for those with multiple traumas. We’ll work together to create a personalized plan based on your goals and readiness.

Can I do EMDR therapy from home?

Yes! I offer secure virtual sessions throughout Pennsylvania. Virtual EMDR works via guided eye movement or tapping using camera tools and is just as effective as in-person therapy.

What’s the deal with oracle cards?

Like many things in life, oracle cards are another tool. They can provide us a message to support us in our journey, can be fun to look at, help grow our intuition, or offer us a chance to be open minded and curious.
